Process:
Inquiry:(the process of asking questions in order to seek, search, discover):
While trying to find a photographer to use as inspiration, I decided to choose Martin Schoeller. I was inspired by the lighting he uses and how it could be so bright but also calming. I wanted to figure out how I could create a similar feeling when looking at an image while also evoking feeling using a persons facial features using the details in the eyes and the narrow depth of field.
Technical process:
When I started creating this project, I did research on different photographers and finally chose Martin Schoeller. I then asked my brother if I could take pictures of him. He agreed and I took his picture in the studio using the different lights in the room. I then tried to edit the lighting to make it similar to the lighting used by Schoeller. I eventually had to retake these photos because the lighting was so different. After I retook the ones of my brother with more similar lighting until I was satisfied. After I finished taking phots of my brother I asked my friend Bhavika if I could take pictures of her as to have multiple photos to submit. I did a process similar to the one with my brother however, this time I only had to shoot once because I knew what lighting Schoeller used and I used what I knew about the lighting I used for my brother and adjusted it to create a more accurate result than I had with my brother. I still had to edit the photo because even though Schoeller's images look as if there was no editing and as if it was natural. He stated however that he would edit his images but not in a way that was obvious. So I used PhotoShop to remove blemishes and pimples as I did on my brothers photo. One of the tools I used on Photoshop was the 'sharpen' tool to make the eyes stand out as Schoeller says that and the mouth are what he focuses on. I was unable to use the tool on the mouth without making it appeal very dry and cracked. Martin also has a very narrow depth of field in his images. I struggled to create a depth like his but after many tries and multiple different photos I was able to create something similar. Mine is not as narrow as his because we have different cameras but I was able to make due and have it be as similar as I could get it.

Critiques:
Two peer and one teacher constructive and specific criticisms in the following areas sensory (elements of art), formal/technical (organization/principles of design and use of materials/techniques) and expressive qualities (how does it connect to conceptual process).
-
SENSORY - Sahara suggested to improve space, have the photo more centered and not have the hair on one side be cut off.
-
FORMAL/TECHNICAL - Ava suggested to help with contrast make the ring light reflection in the eyes not as bright and strong
-
EXPRESSIVE - Ms. Johnson suggested to improve depth of field and make the ears more out of focus and to use the same kind of light Martin Schoeller uses to improve lighing simularity.

Elements and Principles of Design:
-
Art Elements- I used texture to emphasize the detail on the eyes and the mouth as Schoeller said he did. When taking these images I would focus on these facial features. It is the texture that makes the photos to stand out.
-
Principal of Design- I used balance to make sure the images were in the center. If they were not in the center I would have to not use and delete it all together or simply crop the sides. I wanted the portate to be symmetrical especially on the sides where the empty spaces are.
Reflection: (max 100 characters including spaces)

Dimensions: tbh
Material: camera and photoshop
Process: using the different lights in the studio then photoshop
