Process:
Inquiry:(the process of asking questions in order to seek, search, discover):
While thinking through this project I knew I wanted to do something with a deeper meaning that shows the negative side of pink. When a person thinks of pink they think of women and I wanted to incorporate this into the project. Breast cancer for women is overlooked and this is why I wanted to do a project including this topic. I was listening to the song 'Not My Responsibility' by Billie Eilish and it talks about how women view and think about their bodies. this made me want to also encompass this as well.
I had 45 degree turn around when it came to my idea about this project however I feel that my original idea has importance of how I got here. I wanted to show how a person could use the color pink to show the ones around them that they are loved. My inquiry is a basic topic relating to pink and love which is originally was the last thing I wanted to do until I saw how much my best friend is struggling. He has recently lost his dad to cancer which is why I kept the cancer symbol as part of my project. I wanted to show him how much I care about him at the same time I was trying to come up with a different project idea and decided to combine the two. I expected way more from my project so I am a little disappointed the way it turned out however it is still really meaningful to me. When I included pictures I wanted to cover up his face for confidentiality reasons. When I was thinking about this I realized that I have not seen him in a while because he moved to Boston and that our memorys together are not as strong even though we are on the phone we are not together physically. I wanted to represent this and I did so by making the images blurry. I also wanted to include the type of cancer his dad died from and so I used the color green and periwinkle to have on the lino cut of the cancer ribbon.
Technical process:
I created the background using gelli print and different colors. I also cut out the design for the cancer ribbon on a lino cut and used printing ink to print the different colors on the background. I used the extra papers with patterns on then from the gelli print to put on top of the background and inbetween and behind the pictures. For the pictures I went through my camera roll and found some images of my friend and I to include in the project.

Critiques:
Two peer and one teacher constructive and specific criticisms in the following areas sensory (elements of art), formal/technical (organization/principles of design and use of materials/techniques) and expressive qualities (how does it connect to conceptual process).
-
SENSORY - Indigo suggested to enhance the color/value to have the breast cancer ribbon to be in light pink instead of white or black when I print it from the lino cut.
-
FORMAL/TECHNICAL - Greer suggested to add more contrast in the top right corner similar to the darker pink color with the pattern
-
EXPRESSIVE - Ms. Johnson suggested to think about a different subject to take a picture of for the project because she doesnt recommend using a black silhouette
Final:
Elements and Principles of Design:
-
Art Elements- I used texture in my project when I used the gelli print style it made it that you could feel the texture. As well as when I added the different layers to the project it made it stand out more.
-
Principal of Design- I used repetition of the color purple to help emphasize the pink in the back ground. As well as the multiple green and periwinkle ribbons.
