Inquiry:

EX: This project I struggled with the most with coming up with an idea. I wanted to do something like time aging. I wanted to do something like how the house aged in the animated movie Gnomio and Juliet. I wanted to find a house being built that looks like it hasnt been touched in a while and an empty lot. I then wanted to edit the two pictures together to make it look like what the land looked like before the house was there. I miss understood the assignment and need to redo the approach. I then wanted to do something with high contrast and decided to go into the street late at night to look for ideas and I had the idea to take a picture of it because it stood out because of the darkness around it. I did not want the picture to be just of the street lamp so I included the road in it as well which added depth to it and provided the absence of subject because there was no subject in the image and the only thing that could be considered the subject is the light coming from the light.

Technical process (From beginning to end, how did you make this?)

I originally went out and found two images. One of an empty lot and one of a house that is being built that had not been worked on in a while. I then went into photoshop and combined the two images to attempt and show what it would look like without the house. I had to redo the project because I had miss understood the assignment. I ended up wanting to find something with high contrast and a subject that is not really there. I went to the street late at night and found the street light that stood out because of the darkness around it.

Critiques:

Two peer and one teacher constructive and specific criticisms in the following areas sensory (elements of art), formal/technical (organization/principles of design and use of materials/techniques) and expressive qualities (how does it connect to conceptual process).

  • SENSORY - Kora suggested to make the space more noticeable by adjusting the lighting

  • FORMAL/TECHNICAL - Ava suggested to make the light stand out more

  • EXPRESSIVE - Ms. Johnson suggested to not combine two images as I had done but be able to remove the subject all together and have it have meaning.

Elements and Principles of Design:  Please bullet point one element and one  principle of design you used and explain how you used them in your composition.
  • Art Element- I used space because in the photo the street keeps going which adds to the imagination and is a continuation.
  • Principle of Design- I used contrast because it makes the focal point of the street light stand out even more because it is the only thing in the picture that has a bright light compared to the dark atmosphere around it.

Reflection: (max 100 characters including spaces)

Idea: Have an image that has high contrast that is able to not have a subject with having one at the same time

Dimensions: 13in x 19in

Material:I used photo paper to print because the image is a photograph

Process: I went outside late at night because that is when things are high in contrast with lights and I found a strong street light in an area that fit what I wanted it to look like
